The current conflict between Russia and Ukraine results from years of tension and mistrust. The neighbors have very different cultures and histories, which has led to disagreements and passionate ideological stances. Putin's annexation of Crimea was the final straw for the Ukrainians, who are now determined to break free from Russian control. However, this will be a difficult task, as this remains an age-old David vs Goliath story. The Ukrainian people are brave and resourceful, however, and I believe the road is a long and bumpy one before Ukraine could become an independent influence-free nation.
